"Now I run from the noise. And I run for myself."- ModernMom

I was reading this article today and found it another one to link to.
Everyone has their own reasons to exercise; to run; and for some, to do neither. For me, being healthy is something I take pride in. It makes me feel good. It gives me energy. And with two, almost three, kids...it is my time, my sanity!

I loved this quote the author wrote in the article "Now I run from the noise. And I run for myself."
They are words that I can definitely relate to.
I tend to run with music...but there are definitely the days that the sound of my breath and feet hitting pavement outweigh any other sound.

I cant wait to get back.

Soccer Camp...

Today Kai started his first "camp" ever!
I cant believe how old he is getting. Where does the time go!?

For his age...camp is, S-H-O-R-T!!
This specific one runs Monday to Friday for an hour a day. Although he had a few minutes of wanting to play basketball instead, overall he loved it, and loved the fact that he got his own soccer ball even more.

I am sure you can imagine the chaos. 20 or so 3 and 4 year olds running around a big gym for an hour. The "instructors" tried to lead drills and teach them some moves; but again, they are 3 and 4. They were more interested in running, period.

Terrible Image Quality Alert!!!
He is excited to go back for more tomorrow! We have him registered in a few little programs throughout the summer to prep him for new faces and preschools come September. I am glad he took to today so willingly!
Next week we move from Soccer Camp to "where the dolphins play." A two hour-two day camp. Sounds...wet!?

The Dish Cloth...

To end the day, last night the kids found simple pleasure in stripping down to their birthday suits and chasing one another around the house. What is it with kids and nudity. A simple, freeing feeling that is only totally acceptable as a small child. As Ryan and I are sitting eating our dinner, Ryan asks Kai, "what if dad got naked and ran around the house," Kai said, "ya, you get naked too dad!" We had a laugh over the consideration of being recognized as "the nudists next door" and decided, the best place for streaking the house and deck was in the little bodies of our 3 and almost 2 year old.

A few minutes after clothes were off, and diaper was off for Si, Si decided to unleash her inner dog...and poop on the floor. Yes, the naked running came to a halt, so did dinner, and Si was rushed to the toilet.

When I was finished with Si in the bathroom, and went to clean the floor, I noticed the area was "rubbed."  In fear of the dog having licked it, I asked Kai and Ryan what happened and if Jake (the dog) got to it first...ew! But thank goodness that was not the case. Ryan saw Kai take the dish rag and say "I'm cleaning the mess." Not knowing what was going on and for that matter what on earth he was talking about, Ryan continued to eat his meal. It was this moment as a flash-back the moment I asked why the poop on the floor was now smeared. Kai was trying to help. What an amazing little boy and big brother. Kai cleaning up poop with our dish rag...not so great, but the thought and intentions were there. The dish cloth, now in the garbage can.

And so, another adventure in our household to close out the weekend. Bring on the week and all of its new adventures.

Happy Monday!

Happy with my 6...

How is June flying by so quickly!? Another busy weekend filled with Si's stinky finger painting, family time and lots of work; and now, here we are on another Monday morning.
I have to write about my amazing run yesterday...usually this would not be all that impressive, yet being pregnant and having not run this far in quite a few weeks, I really surprised myself! Ryan organized the kids to be sat for a few hours yesterday morning, and him and I ventured out on a run together (another thing we have not done in ages). Not only did I keep up with him, i completed a 6 mile run in just over an hour. Again, not a huge feat; however, i was so pleased as my longest runs lately have lasted about 40 minutes and 4ish miles. I didn't think I still had the distance, or the lungs, in me! I will bask in the length of this run...as I know soon, my bladder and ligaments will not be liking this much.

On another note, as mentioned, I have some exciting Giveaways this week so stay tuned...and then this Friday brings another Fabulous Friday Interview! A good week in store...and I am sure a few good stories along the way.
I am on my way out to instruct a Stroller Fit class, in the rain...come on sun, this is getting tiring!

When I get back, I will update you on this weeks first Giveaway! A little something in honour of Fathers Day this Sunday (don't forget it!).

Have a little faith...

My domain whiletheyaresleeping.com is now officially up and running. I am so happy! It actually happened early this week, but this week has completely gotten away from me.

I had a bit of a rough time last week; between dealing with Sienna, dealing with the kids in general (!), and feeling down on myself, it was a hard one...
I was getting really frustrated on myself with regards to work. Trying to figure out how I was going to do it, and what I was going to do at all! And then it kind of just happened...as if the stars just aligned!? I had three opportunities come at me in one day...and another on Monday!
Isn't it weird how things like that happen? I find that I couldn't be stressing harder, worrying myself, and thinking so negatively...and then my hard work and patience (ya right) start to pay off, and in the course of a few days, I have a new listing, and a few other avenues that I will have more to say about soon! This week has been a crazy one...run of my feet with things to get done...and still a list 10 pages long to complete; but I am taking it as it comes, one step at a time. I guess the lesson being, have a little faith and keep on walking!

"Faith is one foot on the ground, one foot in the air, and a queasy feeling in the stomach." — Mother Angelica
"What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step." — C.S. Lewis

I have been trying to get here to write, but with best intentions at hand, there hasn't been enough time in the day (and in a little over a week, there will be even one less hour in our day)!!

I will be back to post again soon...but I will leave you with this to look forward to.  In honour of my domain going live, I will be having a giveaway soon. Let you know all the details and what it is...in the next post.

I am taking some time for me this morning...gotta log some miles on my feet. Time for some sanity :-)
Happy Thursday!

What's next...

With the holiday in my rear view, "cleansing" commenced, schedules being ironed out, I sit here trying to plan my "what's next" for athletic endeavours for 2011.

2010 was an amazing year for new athletic feats for me. I learnt how to road ride, competed in the Oliver Half Ironman (my first triathlon EVER), ran my second  marathon, it was a successful year. And now, with nothing set in the near future, I am feeling competition withdrawal. I need to set some goals!

You see, I began to really like this competitive side of things when I was pregnant for the first time with our son, Kai. My dad offered out a trip to New York if my husband or I ran the marathon...and so, once Kai was born, I started running. My first marathon and my first taste of competition (since my high school days of track and dance). And then, there was pregnancy number two, Sienna. While pregnant, I decided I was going to do the Oliver Half Ironman...never having done a tri before I figured, why not: go big or go home, right!?

And now, NO I AM NOT PREGNANT AGAIN, I would like to set some goals for 2011 and see where my athletic endeavors can take me this year.

Some things I am throwing around, but haven't yet committed to are:

The Dirty Duo Ultra Trail Run, Vancouver BMO Marathon, Oliver Half Ironman, The Ride to Conquer Cancer, Gran Fondo and the NYC Marathon. Yes a feat to carry out all considering I have a family at home AND that fact that they all cost money to enter. So I am trying to decide out of all these thoughts floating in my mind at the moment, which ones would give me the greatest satisfaction in not only completing but in training for.

Any of you out there have advice on you past races that you would like to pass on? Why was it your best and why should I do it!?

I have this problem when it comes with exercise. I truly love to workout, but HATE doing it if I don't have something to work towards. I feel like I am just running in a circle or pushing weights up and down just because; and then...it gets boring. My advice to those bored with their set routines, or starting fitness as their New Years Resolution, set a goal. Whether it is to walk a 5k or complete an Ironman, it does not matter, just set something!  When there is an end goal in sight your mind seems to work on an entirely different level (well, mine does at least!) ; and the best part about it all, is the way you feel when you cross that finish line.  A true high, like you can conquer just about anything!

On that note...maybe I should make The Ride to Conquer Cancer a must for this year. Anyone in??

One last note: my experience has been that when you have people to train with, it makes the journey to the end more exciting and memorable.
